Monte Carlo Classic Challenge 1993 VHS More than 1600 miles of the most demanding roads in Europe set in the thick of winter - the Monte Carlo Challenge is a highly authentic re-creation of the Monte Carlo Rally of the late 1950's and early 1960's. In ‘93, it looked as if the Halfpenny's ex-works MGA could beat Ron Gammon's and Paul Easter's MGA... but the final night saw many an upset. Ford Zephyrs and Austin A90s were right up there with the leaders to produce a final leader board that was full of variety. The biggest, most successful Monte Carlo Challenge yet, produced some exciting stories!

Monte Carlo Classic Challenge 1992 VHS Nearly 100 cars set out for the sunshine of the Riviera from snowy Edinburgh but by the time the tired crews and cars drew onto the finish ramp at the harbour of Monte Carlo, victory was gained by just two seconds, the closest finish ever seen in historic rallying. A rally of great contrast and variety; from the struggles of the Morgan three-wheeler to the crushing disappointment of top ex-works navigator Paul Easter as he steps out at the finish, dumbfounded that a simple mistake on the Turini saw the Gammons/Easter MGB fall from a near certain place on the winners rostrum. This comprehensive video captures all the best action from an excellent event.

Monte Carlo Classic Challenge 1991 VHS The Monte Carlo, dubbed "The Toughest Winter Classic Rally" certainly lived up its reputation for the 118 entrants who started from Edinburgh and Oslo. Blizzard conditions were encountered from the start, a foretaste of what was to come in France and Belgium. Competitors were sliding off the road on the ice and snow in all directions as they attempted to keep to the tight time schedules, and spinning tyres played havoc with any attempt to maintain the schedules. It was hard enough in a four wheeler, spare a thought for the Morgan three-wheeler which ploughed its lonely furrow to the finish on a wing and a prayer and two valve springs! It still finished though!

Pirelli Classic Marathon 1990 VHS Known as the 'Golden Oldies Rally' by the irreverent, the Pirelli Classic Marathon is the longest and one of the most challenging of its kind in the world. The 1990 event was no exception and, being the third Pirelli event, it was the first opportunity for competitors to vie for the coveted Alpine Gold Cup award. Drivers included Stirling Moss (MGB), Paddy Hopkirk (replica Cooper 'S'), Bobby Unser (E-type Jaguar), Roger Clark (MGB), Don Pither (Sunbeam Tiger) and Ron Gammons in another MGB. The outcome was a hard and highly entertaining battle over the Alpine passes. All in all, we recommend this as the best coverage yet of the best Pirelli Classic.

Pirelli Classic Marathon 1989 VHS With almost 2000 miles of varying roads across 6 countries, the Pirelli Classic Marathon is the longest rally of its kind in the world for cars over 20 years old. And what cars! Jaguar, Daimler, Frazer Nash, Alvis, Sunbeam, MG, Morgan, to name just a few and these matched only by their drivers and navigators.
The cars set off from Tower Bridge, London, with 1988 winners Atkins and Lyle first to leave in their Triumph TR4 followed by Paddy Hopkirk teamed with Alec Poole in a superb sounding Mini Cooper S and Roger Clark and Tony Mason shortly after in their Ford Lotus Cortina. Timo Makinen was also in the pack and what a delight to see the indomitable Stirling Moss piloting his immaculate MGB. Armchair enthusiasts can enjoy the sheer pleasure of watching Stirling in action again on the Nurburgring during the speed test.
Or what about the speed test at Stelvio, Italy’s highest mountain pass? It has 48 hairpin corners from the floor of the valley to the summit 9000ft above sea level. Bogey time is 16mins for 8 and a half miles – all uphill! John Cheatham did it in 13minutes 17seconds, with flames from unburned fuel licking threateningly from his tailpipe. With a surprise finish, the Pirelli Classic Marathon recreates the Golden Age of British Rallying. Good camerawork, magnificent mountain scenery and an opportunity to watch some of the greatest cars of their era doing what they did best make this a highly collectable, quality production.
